Our History

Our History

The Boy Scout Troop of 494 has been around for so many years and passed on by so many people that few even remember the story. We have always been located at St. Paul’s Catholic Church and we have followed them across Olathe from location to location.

Our Connection to the City of Olathe

Olathe is one of the fastest-growing suburbs of Kansas City. It serves as the center of Johnson County and therefore has always been and will continue to be a place of business, diversity, and community. It, therefore, makes sense that scouting would find its place in Olathe. With the sponsorship of local business McAnany Oil Co. Inc and St. Paul’s Catholic Church, BSA Troop 494 was started.

Our Location

We have always been located at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, but the church has not always been in the same spot. It started in central Olathe in Edgemere. However, after a lot of fundraising and expansion within the church, the church moved to a new modern facility in Sunnybrook. From a fluorescent-lit underground storage floor to a second-story conference room it was a big upgrade for the troop.

Scout law: A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
